A Glimpse into the Divine

Now I am in awe of this wonderful universe and the wisdom of the ancients. It took a long way to get to where I am.

At first, I had never really prayed to Mother Durga—well, maybe not in this life. I looked more to Lord Shiva, and later to Lord Krishna, as I became fascinated with the teachings in the Bhagavad Gita.

I had met my Guruji, Shri Nandini Maa, and had started meditating, although not intensely, as I was still attending the temple.

During one of our Navratri celebrations, while the Durga Chalisa was being chanted and offerings and prayers were taking place, I had an experience.

I was sitting on the floor when they began offering the prasad. I felt my hand rise into the blessing mudra. My whole body was filled with strong energy, held in a force from within. I could not put my hand down. A thought came inside me:

“Give me the prasad. I am here. I am here.”

I tried to fight it, and a little noise came out of my mouth. My small mind was still there, wondering, “What is happening?” I couldn’t fight it, so I imagined myself eating the prasad. After that, the energy subsided, and I began to feel better. The voltage in my body had been magically reduced.

As I continued my sadhana, long after leaving the temple, I began to glide into the experience of the Divine Mother. Sometimes I felt I was her, but my logical brain would kick in and say, “What nonsense.”

But then something happened.

A Message from the Universe

Just before the COVID lockdown, I felt I should close my Divine Contact Facebook page. My body was struggling, and I felt there was no interest.

Then I received an email from a friend and former co-worker. She wrote:

“I had a healing session this week and was told that my Teacher Guide was Durga. The woman doing the session, Wanda, had never seen her before and described her to me. They had a little exchange because Wanda was unsure who she was, but was reassured that she was an important goddess. Wanda was surprised and had never encountered Durga. At one point she said, ‘Ok, ok—she is telling me she is a very powerful goddess.’ After the session, I was in a daze all afternoon. I clicked on Facebook and the first thing I saw was a post from Wanda (Intuitive Energy Healer), and right below it was a post from you (Divine Contact). I took that as a sign.”

My friend did not know how to approach me, and it took her some time to write the email. I replied that it meant I had to teach her meditation.

Later, she wrote again:

“When I read your email response and got to the end, the phrase ‘my presence would overwhelm some people’ stuck in my head. I began to feel heat go from the tip of my toes to the top of my head. I put my phone down and just thought—WOW.”

Neither my friend nor Wanda had seen a picture of Shri Durga Maa. Wanda had described her as beautifully dressed and wearing bangles. I sent a picture of Shri Durga Maa to my friend, who passed it on to Wanda. The description was confirmed.

So this was the message from the universe to me.

I left the page up and began weekly meditations on Zoom.

The Divine Mother Moves

It is the Divine Mother who takes many forms—she is the energy of the cosmos. I now understand how I change into different Gurus and deities. It is the Divine working in the universe, working through this body.

As our group meditated, many began having experiences. Their lives and outlooks have changed—but you would have to speak to them about that.

The experiences I share here are part of a much larger spiritual journey. In my memoir, When the Divine Reveals Itself, I explore these experiences and the unfolding of my understanding in greater depth.
