This page holds the voice of one who sat with me—Aasha Dasi not as a visitor, but as a friend, a devotee, and a witness to the quiet movement of Shakti. Her journey is her own, yet it reflects the grace that flowed through our time together. May her reflections offer insight to those who are quietly awakening.

Meeting Maa: The First Stirring of Stillness
I first met Shree Parbatee Maa in the summer of 2003 at the North Texas Hindu Mandir. My husband and I were new to the temple, and in those early days I felt drawn to her without understanding why. There was a purity in her presence, a peace I had never encountered before.
As the months passed, Maa began attending the small gatherings I hosted in our apartment. My two little girls would play nearby while Maa sat with us, and slowly I found myself wanting to understand who she was and what she lived. Being near her brought a deep stillness. My eyes would naturally close, and my whole being would settle into a quiet I had never known.
Through her, I was gently introduced to her Guru, Shree Nandini Maa, and something in my heart began to open.
Awakening on Old Year’s Night
My true awakening happened on Old Year’s Night, December 31st, at the temple. The hall was filled with chanting as we welcomed the new year. My daughters were asleep in that powerful vibration, and I was sitting close to Maa when she suddenly fell into a deep trance.
As I placed a pillow under her head, questions rose inside me:
What is she experiencing? Why can’t I feel God like this? Am I not pure enough?
The chanting continued, but something inside me had already begun to stir.
That night, after returning home, I sat on the bedroom floor in the dark and called on all the gurus. Within minutes, tears began to flow — not ordinary tears, but a warm, peaceful release that felt like a blessing.
The next morning, the same quiet bliss remained. My husband, without understanding why, said he wanted to touch my feet. I called Maa immediately. She came the next day with fruits and flowers. We sat together on the floor, eyes closed, and it felt as if something sacred had been recognized between us.
I did not know it then, but this was my awakening — one I only fully understood a decade later.
Walking in Shakti: Eighteen Years of Grace
Over the years, my relationship with Maa deepened in ways I could never have imagined. Her presence changed me. Anger slowly left. Peace became more constant. Joy began to arise from within.
In satsang, I would feel energized while she was with us, and deeply tired after she left — as if returning to ordinary life required adjusting to a different vibration. Before each gathering, I would cook, decorate, and prepare the house with excitement. It always felt as if God Himself was coming to visit.
Her teachings shaped every part of my life:
how I raised my children, how I kept my home, how I ate, how I moved through the world. Even ten minutes of meditation, she taught, could bring balance to the mind.
During my divorce — one of the hardest periods of my life — Maa’s blessings carried me. With her grace, I completed my master’s degree and bought a new home within a year.
In my work as an academic counselor and massage therapist, people often tell me they feel peace, joy, or healing in my presence. I know this is not me alone. It is Maa’s Shakti moving through me, touching others in ways I could never do on my own.
One night, after a late satsang, a miracle unfolded on the highway. A car sped toward us in the wrong direction. Time seemed to slow. The van moved in a way I cannot explain. We were protected. Held. Guided home by a grace beyond understanding.
Saints are mysterious. That night revealed how quietly and powerfully Shakti can move.
A Divine Experience by the Lake
One summer, my family and I spent a month in Minnesota with Maa, staying in a small cabin by the water. Those days were filled with peace — cooking together, watching the lake, caring for the children, and sitting in silence.
One afternoon, as I sang a Shiva song, Maa entered a powerful dance — a dance spoken of in scriptures. The room filled with Shakti. My children and I watched in awe.
At other times, when Maa meditated outside, the sky would suddenly darken and the wind would rise, even on a sunny day. Nature itself seemed to respond to her presence.
Many who visited us during that month felt something shift — deep cries, unexpected peace, or a joy rising from within. These moments confirmed what I already knew: Maa was a being of Shakti.
The most unforgettable experience came during a boat ride on the lake. As I steered the small boat with Maa and my children, time seemed to stand still. I felt as if I had become Kevat, the humble boatman from the Ramayan, ferrying my Lord Ram across the water.
The stillness was profound. The lake was silent. My children were calm. It felt like a scene from another lifetime returning to bless this one.
When we returned to the dock, Maa later told me she too felt time stand still — and that she understood why I experienced her as Ram. My love for Ram had always been deep, and that day He revealed Himself to me through Maa.
It was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. My heart felt complete.
Jai Shree Ram.
Jai Shree Parbatee Maa.
